Nancy Elizabeth (Swanton) Nelson

Nancy Elizabeth Swanton Nelson passed away September 29, 2023, in Ocala, FL at the age of 93.
Nancy was born January 25, 1930, in Springfield, OH to James and Helen (Harker) Swanton.  She graduated from Springfield High School, Springfield, OH, in 1948, and attended Miami University, Oxford, OH.  On August 4, 1951, she married Richard K. Nelson, in Richmond, IN.  Nancy and Richard resided in Oxford, New Carlisle, and Enon, OH for 31 years and moved to E. Setauket, NY, where they lived for 14 years before retiring to Edgewater, FL, in 1996.  Nancy moved to Canterfield Assisted Living in Ocala, FL in June of 2018 where she lived until the time of her passing.  Nancy was an active member of the Yellow Springs Chapter of the Eastern Star.  After a hiatus from education to raise her family, Nancy continued her education and graduated from Wittenburg University with a degree in Elementary Education.  Nancy was employed by the Mad River Green Local School District and taught as a 5th grade teacher for one year before moving to Enon Elementary School as a 2nd grade teacher where she taught for 6 years until moving to NY.  In NY Nancy worked as a substitute teacher primarily with Miller Place School District.  Nancy enjoyed gardening, square dancing, playing cards, traveling and spending time with her family and friends.

Nancy is survived by her son, Eric Nelson (Patricia) of Ocala, FL; daughter Edith Pietrykowski (David) of Fuquay-Varina, NC; grandchildren, Kendra McErlean (Gerard), Kristin Black, Ryan Nelson, Michael Black, Sydney Campbell (Bradley), and Whitney Pietrykowski; great-grandchildren, CJ Wloszczyna (Kimberly), Riley Nelson, Liam McErlean, Barrett Campbell, and Emory Rae Campbell; her brother, James Swanton, and her sister, Emily Swanton-Drum as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard K. Nelson; her daughter, Ellen Elizabeth Nelson; and her parents, James Swanton and Helen Harker Swanton.  Nancy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

At the family’s request there will be no funeral or memorial service and private interment will be at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater, FL.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Marion County, FL.
