Thomas “Nate” Churchill, age 84, of Edgewater, Florida died Tuesday November 30, 2021 at Regency Elderly Care, Edgewater. Born in Wade, ME to Alice Carmichael and Thomas Churchill Sr., he lived most of his life in “the County”, then moved to Windsor, ME in 1984 before retiring in Florida in 1992.
He was a representative of the National Potato Promotion Board for over 20 years, a radio DJ and a TV host for “the Pickers Special” in Aroostook County. He had a passion for harness horse racing, was an owner, trainer, member/past president of the Maine Harness Horse Assoc., and beloved race announcer throughout Maine. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, New Smyrna Beach, FL, belonged to AmVets, Post 2 in Edgewater, was a Shriner and past Masonic Grand Master of Trinity Lodge 130 Presque Isle, ME. He loved spending time with his family and cherished friends & his sense of humor and good-natured teasing brought laughter to every conversation. He had a true gift with words, both written & spoken, truly loved people, and leaves a legacy of integrity & honor.
Survivors include his daughter, Heather (and Vince) Stretar, of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Heidi (and Wayne) Sawyer, of Coinjock, North Carolina; 3 grandchildren, Jesse and Katie Sawyer and Dontea Ayres; great grandchild, Kaden Ayres; sister, Wilma Hoyt, of Chelsea, Maine; and sister in law, Erica Churchill, of Wade, Maine. Nate was preceded in death by his first wife of 33 years, Barbara; second wife of 12 years Genevieve; brother, Dale Churchill, sister Lois Churchill and brother, Jerome Churchill.
Service will be at a later date in Maine.
