Norma Gilmore Obituary

Norma Rhea Gilmore, age 93, died Thursday, February 25, 2021. She was born on September 26, 1927 in Henderson, Kentucky to Carl & Edith Jones. After graduating high school, Norma worked for the Ohio Valley National Bank for seven years where she became the first ever female Head Bookkeeper.

While visiting with her cousins in Florida, Norma met her soon to be husband, John F. Gilmore Jr. After a whirlwind romance, the pair were married on November 24th, 1950. Norma and John’s lives were filled with faith, family, adventure, and travel. They loved each other deeply and were inseparable for 66 years with the passing of John in 2017.

Norma was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She doted on her family, welcomed anybody and everybody, and was beloved by anyone that met her. Her most enjoyed hobbies were golf, tai chi, and making sure that everyone was well fed. One of her most memorable features was her laugh which was contagious and would often bring her to tears.

Norma is survived by her three children, Rebecca, Brenda, and Mark; four grandchildren Matthew, Amanda, Luke, and Alyson, and six great grandchildren Thomas, Hayden, William, Charlotte, Amelia, and Coen.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Coronado Community  United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or The American Cancer Society.
