Peter T. (Pete) Austen, age 84 of Port Orange died Sunday, January 23, 2022, at Halifax Health Medical Center Daytona Beach. Born in Miami to Oswald Townsend and Elsie Mae Blackburn Austen, Pete came to the Daytona area from Miami in 1999.
A United States Air Force veteran, he had been a member of the Coral Gables Jaycees, was a 32nd Degree Mason (Coral Gables Lodge #260), and just received his 60-year pin; Pete was a Shriner out of Mahi Shrine in Miami, until 1999 when he moved to the Daytona Area and joined the Bahia Shrine in Orlando. He was deeply involved in the philanthropic activities in the Shrine and served also on the Director Staff; a proud member of the ROJ #166 in the Orlando Area, and a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather that enjoyed boating, fishing, riding his motorcycles, and traveling around the US in his motorhome. Pete and Janice traveled extensively around the world and enjoyed their travels by motorcycle in Europe and throughout the United States.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Janice; son, Britt Townsend Austen, of Port Orange, daughter Paige (Gerald) Everett, of Suwannee, stepdaughter Kim (Bruce) Caulkins, of Orlando; stepdaughter Lori (Steven) Losner, of Homestead, grandsons, Austen (Kaitlyn) Everett, Landon Everett, Alex Losner and Max Losner; granddaughter Lizzie Losner. He is also survived by nephews John (Sue) Austen, and Steve (Maureen) Austen. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, stepbrother John, and step-sister, Betty.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to the Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital.
