Raymond S. Banas was born on April 13, 1926 in Buffalo, New York.
He died on August 5, 2023 at the Halifax Hospice Care Center in Ormond Beach, Florida.
Ray is survived by his wife of 73 years, Jean; his children, Karen Jacobs and David Banas; his grandchildren, Ben Jacobs, Becky Musto, Rachel Cochran, Lisa Banas Sorkin, and Eric Banas; and ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Alice Kolipinski, plus numerous loving nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Banas.
Raymond served in the European Theatre during World War II, and during the Korean War.
Ray was a federal employee with the Defense Department in Washington, D.C.
He designed and constructed homes for his family; was a master wood-worker, and an ardent bridge player. Ray was also an avid gardener, a nature lover and enjoyed traveling to our National Parks.
Ray was known as “Mr. Fixer-Upper” to family and friends, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the Smyrna Yacht Club.
He had a delightful sense of humor.
A Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Smyrna Beach on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11 a.m.
