Richard J. Dufresne, age 78, of Edgewater, died Tuesday, March 14, 2023, surronded by loved ones at Halifax Health Hospice, Edgewater. Born in Brockton, Massachusetts to Gerald Norman and Evelyn Rose Devine Dufresne, Richard came to the area in 2007 from Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
A retired Quality Control Specialist, he was a member of St. Gerard Mission Church, St. Vincent de Paul charities and the Knights of Columbus. Richard enjoyed biking, fishing, watching the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He played tennis in his earlier years, played duplicate bridge with his first wife, and enjoyed bowling, vacationing with his family throughout the United States and Canada, and loved going to the beach. Richard used to coach his children’s softball and baseball teams and he used to make popcorn for Meghan & Kevin on Friday nights in the 1980s when they watched Solid Gold on TV and he made them pancakes on weekend mornings.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Gloria; daughter, Meghan Dufresne and her husband Daisuke´ Fuchigami, of Quincy, Massachusetts; son, Kevin Dufresne, of Medford, Massachusetts; brother, James Dufresne, of Rockford, Illinois and three step-children. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gerald; sister, Cathy Bertoldo; and his late first wife, Janet M. (Treacy) Dufresne.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 24, 2023 at St. Gerard Mission Church, Edgewater. Friends will be received on Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home.
