Richard “Dale” Grainger, age 77, of New Smyrna Beach, died Thursday May 19, 2022 at Halifax Health Hospice Edgewater Care Center. Born in Mullins, South Carolina to Waldo and Hazel Alford Grainger, Dale came to the area in 2005 from Longwood.
A former US Air Force Reservist, Dale was a graduate of the University of Georgia and worked as a regional insurance claims manager. He attended Community Unitarian Church and loved fishing, boating, hunting, and golf. He was both a great golfer and dancer, having spent his youth dancing the Shag in Myrtle Beach. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Dale was a true Southern gentleman – kind, loving and most honorable.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Anna; son, Kelly Grainger, of Port Orange; two stepdaughters, Karen (John) Moore of Bury, England and Kristin (Jonathan) Springer of Melbourne; two granddaughters, Esmeralda Grainger of Port Orange and Leighton Moore of Bury, England. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Christopher Grainger, and brother, Jack Grainger.
Memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday June 2, 2022 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home with Chaplain Mark Spivey officiating.
