Robert Payson Tucker, age 99, of Edgewater and formerly of Oak Hill, died Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Clyde E. Lassen State Veterans Nursing Home. Born in Jackson, PA on November 19, 1923 to Reed Edward and Ruth Tucker, Robert was one of ten children and is survived by three and predeceased by the others. He was a Florida resident since 1965.
A retired heavy equipment operating engineer, he worked in major construction in upstate New York. Robert was temporarily assigned to the Kennedy Space Center Infrastructure project from 1963 - 1965. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 149, New Smyrna Beach, Shriner & Scottish Rite and American Legion Post 285.
Robert was a United States Army/Air Force veteran, when they divided went to Air Force; WWII North Africa, Italy, France, Normandy, Battle of the Bulge all the way to the Russian front. He received 3 bronze stars, served under Patton and Eisenhower, 3rd Armor Division liberated a concentration camp on the way to the Russian front.
Survivors include his son, Ronald R. Tucker, Edgewater; stepson, George E. Tucker, Waterbury, CT; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his wife Christine Carolyn in 2014.
Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, with military honors by the United States Air Force. Masonic Lodge #149 and American Legion Post #285, will be officiating.
