Robert "Bob" Butler Obituary

Robert “Bob” Eugene Butler, 61, passed away March 13, 2020, from complications of liver disease.  His family is grateful for the excellent care he received from Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Bob fought his illness with courage and strength showing his character and determination to never give up while his family was by his side.

Bob was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, to parents Violet and Morris Butler, who preceded him in death.  Bob was the youngest of four siblings to include Judith Kelly (husband Joseph), Jane Gibson (husband Joe), and Bill Butler (wife Libbie).  He also had several nieces and nephews that he loved very much.

Bob was married to the love of his life, Andrea, for 26 years.  His legacy will live on through his two extraordinary daughters, Savannah and Katie, who were the lights of his life.  He was so proud of his Gator daughters to include Katie’s upcoming UF college graduation. He also adored his male miniature schnauzer, Nick “Junior”, who was named after his other black schnauzer, Nicholas.  He had a special love for the breed and enjoyed attending the first annual Schnauzerfest Rome this past year to celebrate. Andrea and Bob had seven dogs together over the years.

Bob had a passion for auto racing and considered the annual Indianapolis 500 Race the equivalent to Christmas Day.  He loved the month of May and all the racing festivities in Indianapolis. His first Indy 500 was at age 9 and he continued to attend the race every year he could with his TKE fraternity brothers from Southern Illinois University.

He loved the beach and all things tropical to include a custom Tiki bar where he and Andrea entertained friends and family from their first home they built together.  He was able to accomplish his lifetime goal of moving to the beach last year where he was so proud to call home.

He made many friends that became like family throughout his long career in the insurance industry.  His work ethic was unparalleled and inspired his daughters to be the best they could be in everything they do.

His memorial service will be held at the Settle-Wilder Funeral Home, 406 S. Orange St., in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, on June 6, 2020, at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be given to www.schnauzerloverescue.net and Venmo donations to @acbutler67 or Paypal.Me/acbeachgirl.  All donations will be given by the family to Serenity Springs Recovery Center (they ask that no direct donations be given).
