Robert “Bob” Twombly, age 89, of Edgewater, died Thursday, December 7, 2023 at his residence. Born in North Conway, New Hampshire to Robert Grant and Ruth Smith Twombly, Bob came to the area in 1996 from his birthplace.
A United States Army veteran, he attended the First Baptist Church, Oak Hill and was instrumental with handicap children. Bob was the Man of the City of New Milford, Connecticut and was an avid “cruiser”, going on over 130 cruises. He was known as the “Big Tiger Pussycat” on the cruises and by his wife as well. Bob ministered to people while on cruises. He had a chance to tryout for the Red Sox, until he had an injury, but Bob loved baseball. He was a 1953 graduate of Kennett High School; and played baseball, football, and basketball.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Judith and they had been together for 70 years; children, Laura Christian, Ruth (Max) Suberi, and Rogert Twombly III; grandchildren, Joseph Holt, David (Jessica) Holt, Nathan Suberi, and Lexi (Brian McPeak) Suberi; great grandchildren, Sophia Lucas Holt, Eulalie Holt, Brian Holt, and Ayala Suberi; and sister, Cynthia Hartford. Bob was preceded in death by his grandson, Robert Grant Holt.
Memorial service will be at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at the beginning of next year.
