Roy Kenneth Helmick, Sr. age 83, died Saturday January 18, 2025 at Halifax Health Hospice Edgewater, Florida.
Born in St. George, West Virginia to Clarence Lester and Helen Marie Rosier Helmick, Roy came to the Florida in 1998 from York Pennsylvania.
Roy was a United States Air Force veteran that was stationed in Smyrna, TN, and retired from Caterpillar, Inc. in York, PA where he was a technician that would set-up, operate, program machines and robotics. Roy was a member, deacon, and teacher at Shrewsbury Baptist Church, Shrewsbury, PA; and a Sunday school teacher at First United Methodist Church, New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
He was a member of Edgewater Landing Sailboat Club, and the Treasurer on the Board of Directors at Edgewater Landing. Roy was a first responder with the Fire Department; he enjoyed playing the guitar and sang with the Edgewater Landing Choir.
Roy loved his family very much and enjoyed having breakfast every weekend with them.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mary; 2 children, Teresa (Steven) Pope, and Roy Kenneth (Bette) Helmick Jr.; 2 sisters, Geneva (Walter) Dumire; and Dorothy (Orville) Cooper; 4 brothers, Junior (Charlotte) Helmick, Jerry (Kim) Helmick Sr., Dennis (Nancy) Helmick, and Michael (Linda) Helmick; grandchildren, Krystal Magowan, Michael Helmick, Amanda Pope, Courtney Cisco, Roy Kenneth Helmick III; 8 great grandchildren and 1 on the way. Roy was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Helmick, sisters, Patty Rhoades, and Dolores Poling.
Celebration of Life will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home, with Pastor Chuck Acheson, officiating. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home.
