Sally Jo Shiles/Cribbs Obituary

Sally Jo (Griffin) Shiles/Cribbs, age 91, went to be with our Lord and Savior on April 22, 2023.  She was surronded by her family.  Sally was an only child, born in Farmersville, Texas on January 20, 1932, to Walter Clark Griffin and Lola Dai (Kicklighter) Griffin.  Her early childhood was spent in Kissimmee, Florida, her father’s hometown.  The family moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida in the mid 1940's when her father went to work on the FEC Railroad.  Sally graduated from New Smyrna Beach High School in 1950 and was her class president.  She continued her education at Massey Business College in Jacksonville, Florida and became a medical secretary.  She began her career with a radiologist in Jacksonville where she worked for five years before marrying William S. Shiles Sr. from Daytona Beach, Florida.  They lived in Birmingham, Alabama for two years where she worked for two Orthopedic Surgeons.  Moving back to Florida they both obtained jobs with Pan American World Airways, he as a fireman at the Kennedy Space Center and she in the Pan American Medical Dept. at Patrick Air Force Base.  They later moved to New Smyrna Beach and had four children, Becki, Billy, Blake and Bobby.

Sally was remarried in 1993 to James Donal Cribbs who was a crew chief on the launch pads at Kennedy Space Center.  She worked as a transcriptionist in the Radiology Dept. at Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach where she became office manager and retired in 1997 after 25 years of service.  In retirement she loved working crossword puzzles, playing word games, watching “Days of our Lives” on TV and above all she enjoyed spending time with all her wonderful loving family and friends.  Sally enjoyed making people laugh with her jokes and stories, and she could sure tell a story.

She is predeceased by her husband William S. Shiles Sr. and their son Blake Griffin Shiles and her husband James Donal Cribbs.  She is survived by her children Vivian Rebecca Shiles, William S. Shiles Jr. (Pam), Robert Pharis Shiles, her 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and many dear friends.
