Shannon Ann Burns, 82, went home to Our Lord on September 19, 2021, in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Robert Burns; her parents, Charles and Ann Pryce Lawson; brother, Charles; and sister Brenda DeVault.
Shannon moved to Florida in 1951 and was a graduate of Northeast High School. She was a dental hygienist for 30 years. She and Bob were members of Transfiguration Catholic Church in St. Petersburg. Active for many years in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, they attended weekly prayer meetings and touched many lives with their love, good humor and deep faith. They enjoyed camping with family and friends. Upon retirement Shannon and Bob moved to Tennessee where they worked with the National Park Service as campground hosts. Returning to Florida in 2001, they continued to work with private campgrounds until retiring to New Smyrna Beach. Shannon enjoyed golf, swimming, water skiing and jogging, and in later life, gardening and coloring books. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; a great friend and devout Christian, she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include sons, Robert (Grace) Burns, of New Smyrna Beach; and Shawn (Kimberly) Burns, of Altamonte Springs; daughter, Kathleen (Yasha) Becker, of Destin; 2 grandsons, Eathan Burns, of Altamonte Springs and Winston Burns, of Seattle, Washington; 3 granddaughters, Elizabeth Burns, of Alabama; Christine Becker and Chelsea Becker of Destin, FL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in New Smyrna Beach, with the Reverend Patrick Quinn, T.O.R., officiating.
