Shirley Ann King, age 83, died Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Halifax Health Hospice, Edgewater. Born in Franklin, New Hampshire to Leo L. and Ursula Ann Cushing Martel, Shirley came to the area in 1992 from Grafton, Massachusetts.
Shirley grew up in NH and moved to Salem, MA after raising her family. A nursing home supervisor for 16 years, she retired to Florida to help care for her aging Mom and Dad. Shirley was a member of the American Legion, New Smyrna Beach; the Elks, New Smyrna Beach, the Moose, New Smyrna Beach, and the Eagles Lodge, Port Orange. She enjoyed reading, playing tennis, dancing, knitting, crocheting, and playing darts.
Survivors include her daughter, Patty Pavone, of New Smyrna Beach; two sons, Scott (Joanne) Masury, of Oxford, MA, and Mark (Julia) Masury, of Raymond, NH; two grandsons, Jamie Pavone, of West Boylston, MA, and Kyle Masury, of Raymond, NH; granddaughter, Meghan (Ian) James, of Londonderry, NH; two great granddaughters, Natalia James and Emilia James. Also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and her significant other, Tom Coleman. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, partner Jack Swart, and brothers, Wayne Carter and Larry Martel.
Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Settle-Wilder Funeral Home, with the Reverend Lisa Degrenia, Coronado Community United Methodist Church, officiating. A burial at Edgewater-NSB Cemetery and a luncheon at Bouchelle Island Clubhouse will immediately follow.
The family suggests donations in Shirley's memory to Little Pink Houses of Hope for the benefit of New Smyrna Beach retreats, 2442 Tribek Court, Burlington, North Carolina 27215.
