Shirley “Mama Joe” Gamble, age 86, of New Smyrna Beach, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving family by her side. Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts to Eddie and Ann Baptiste Carter, “Mama Joe” came to New Smyrna Beach 15 years ago from Chicopee, Massachusetts.
The matriarch of her family, she loved being “Mama Joe”. She was very proud of her role in life being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mama Joe loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whole heartedly. She enjoyed boating and just being outside in the sun. Mama Joe was a very hard worker and her legacy of keeping order at Big Joe’s Subs & Eatery will be remembered by all. She was a member at First Central Baptist Church, in Chicopee, Massachusetts.
Survivors include her 3 sons, James (Dianne) Gamble, of Port Orange; Steven (Lynn) Gamble, of Chicopee, MA; and Robert “Big Joe” Gamble, of New Smyrna Beach; sister, Joanne Santana-Montez, of California and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Gamble and brother, Edward Carter.
Services will be private.
