On Sunday, October 9, Ulla Smith, a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away. She was ninety-four.
Born to the late Frederik and Julie Brems in Aarhus, Denmark in 1928, she lived through the Nazi occupation of Denmark, after which she moved to London to work and improve her command of the English language.
There she met the love of her life, Jamaican and Royal Air Force officer Noel G. Smith (predeceased). They married and moved to Jamaica where they lived for fifty years and were blessed with a large and loving family.
They raised three children with patience and discipline, Michael “Mickey” Smith (predeceased), Robert “Bobby” Smith (spouse Gizelle Smith) and Marianne Smith Murphy (spouse James Murphy). Ulla was very proud of her eight beautiful grandchildren, Rory, Jason, Staci, Randy, Jeremy, Katie, James and Joseph and her seven lovely great-grandchildren, Dylan, Jude, Alice, Ayah, Carsen, Zander and Jake.
Ulla was a home-maker and also active in various charities in Jamaica, Food for the Poor, teaching female prisoners to sew and several more. She was best known for her quick-witted humor, fierce determination, and generous spirit. She was an inspiration, loved and admired by everyone she met.
