Victor Paulis, age 75, of Fort White, Florida and New Smyrna Beach, died Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at the family home in New Smyrna Beach after an intense battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was born in Frankfurt, Germany to Walter Paulis, U.S. military posted to Berlin and Valentina Potemkin Paulis, a Russian refugee.
Victor grew up in New York City and attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art there. After living in Vermont for some time, Victor came to Florida in the 1980's. He was a pilot and flight instructor who flew all types of air planes, a sea captain, and a sailor. Victor enjoyed scuba diving, and cave diving, the Florida Keys, the ocean, and the springs. He was passionate about snow skiing and an avid tennis player.
Victor was a musician, playing keyboard, saxophone, and many other instruments. He loved playing live music with local musicians, in Key West, in the Fort White area, and with the DBCC Jazz Ensemble.
A caring father, Victor planned many adventures that included the family. He sought new experiences his entire life. His curiosity, independent, pioneering spirit, and unique outlook on life will sustain those who love and remember him.
Survivors include his two children, Victoria Paulis and Nick Paulis and his friend and former spouse, Anna Paulis. Victor was preceded in death by his parents and his grandmother, Maria Kovalsky Potemkin.
