Warren C. Weller, age 87, of New Smyrna Beach, died Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022 at Halifax Hospice, Edgewater. Born in Oneonta, New York to Clayton H. and Abby M.F. Furbeck Weller, Warren came to the area in 1972 from Merritt Island and was employed at Kennedy Space Center until his retirement in 2000.
A United States Navy veteran of 4 years, Warren joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 48 in 1972 and was frequently sighted patrolling the river in the Shaggy Dog II, including Shuttle launches, boat parades, and rescuing stranded boaters. He received many accomendations and held many positions including courtesy marine examinations, training officer, patrol specialist, and information specialist. He was a founding member of Homeland Security.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ellen; daughter, Rebecca Weller, of New Smyrna Beach; son, Jeffrey (Mary Ann) Weller, of Fort Meyers; grandson, Cory (Danielle Shreffler) Weller, of Port Orange and sister, Abby Herring, of New Smyrna Beach.
A memorial boat parade is being planned at a later date.
