Winfred “Larry” Dill Jr. Obituary

March 2, 2021, Winfred L. Dill, Jr. (Larry), husband, father and grandfather, went to his heavenly
home. His wife and daughter at his bedside.

Larry was born in Hendersonville, North Carolina on December 26, 1941 but spent most of his younger years in Spartenburg, South Carolina. His family moved to Florida in 1957. He graduated from Mainland High School, Daytona Beach and joined the United States Navy immediately after graduation. He was stationed on the USS Essex as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class.

On returning to Daytona Beach, he worked in the electrical department at Sears on Beach St. and later joined the electrical apprenticeship program. He met his wife, Peggy Carter, and they were married in 1964. After graduating as a journeyman electrician, Larry became an electrical contractor starting his own business in 1968. He, along with his wife, enjoyed giving Christmas parties for the children of his employees.

Larry was a dreamer and entrepreneur who dabbled in many other business adventures, one as the builder and franchise owner of Denny’s restaurants. He would donate the proceeds from the openings of each restaurant to Habitat for Humanity.

Larry enjoyed fishing, boating, NASCAR, bowling, and skiing in Montana, Utah, Colorado and Banff, Canada. He and Peggy enjoyed traveling and their last adventure was a road trip through New England and Nova Scotia, Canada.

Larry donated time and service as a member of Port Orange Presbyterian Church in Volusia County and Palm Coast Community Church Flagler County. He was a member of many organizations as well.

Larry’s smile will be remembered by those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy, daughter; Lara Kinnamon (Troy), daughter-in-law; Amy Hyatt Dill, grandchildren; Cole and Kate Kinnamon, M.J. McCoy (Jordan), sister Peggy Trail, brother; Doug (Sue), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews and long time friends. He was predeceased by his parents; W.L. Sr. and Ottie Belle Dill, son Bill Dill and longtime friend Herschel Gardner.

At his request there will be no service. A family gathering to celebrate his life will be at a later date.
