I just learned this AM of Holly's passing. Mary and I are devastated. I met Andrew Jackson Lee III in Fall 1993. I was on sabbatical from the DA's office, to start my non-profit Crime Control Foundation of America.

I read an article in a national publication about two legendary lawmen: Maricopa County, AZ Sheriff Joseph M. Arpaio and Benton County, AR Sheriff Andy Lee.

They were competing to see who could claim the unofficial title: TOUGHEST SHERIFF IN AMERICA. Joe's tents vs Andy's no frills jail. Joe's pink boxers vs Andy's new, striped inmate outfits. Joe's green baloney sandwiches vs Andy's NO COFFEE, NO TOBACCO, NO GIRLY MAGAZINES.

When Andy learned I was going to tour Arpaio's Estrella Jail tents, he agreed to accompany me, in a show of support for what I was trying to do, via CCFoA. That was indeed special.

I wrote both men. Joe wrote me back. Andy phoned me. I quickly came to respect both men, and decided to commemorate them, by writing a book about their adventures. They are that special!

Andy and Holly drove from AR to CA, to visit Mary and me in 2006, and drop off two BIG boxes of research material for the book I hadn't started writing yet: America's Two Toughest Sheriffs.

We had so much fun, getting to hang with them. In time, we also met their delightful four adult children, Andy IV, Travis, Jessica, and Allison. Like Andy, both sons are peace officers.

With great pride, I was finally able to get "Sheriffs" published in 2015, and deliver a personalized copy to Andy, Holly, and each Lee offspring.

A special place in each of our hearts remains reserved for Andy, Holly, and the entire Lee clan. Call me biased. But, the Lee family is a cut above the rest.

God, no doubt, has special plans for Holly. RIP, from Mary and me. Prayers for the entire Lee family and Holly's many other loved ones.

The first time I ever met Holly, her and hubby came to visit us. My husband was busy at work and I got to spend an entire week with her. Andy was relaxing and Holly and I had a blast!! We laughed, we walked, we chatted and toured the large areas of the desert, including lots of sights in Palm Springs, CA. I enjoyed spoiling both of them with my home cooked meals and baked goodies. I knew she felt comfortable in my home when she curled up on a couch, with throw blanket over her lap, and read her book. She left a lifetime of memories in one short fun week for me. What a precious, kind heart and a gift of love to those who were blessed to know her. May she rest in eternal peace.

Lee family, Our hearts are heavy for each one of you today. We were severely saddened by the news of Holly's passing, and we have been praying for you each day since. We never had the fortune to meet Holly, but from Andy and Allison’s posts it is clear she was a lovely woman. Take care of each other, and for those of you in Bentonville please let us know if there is anything we can do for you. The Acostas

Andy and family: Holly was an awesome chick.! I an so glad to have seen her Tuesday morning at gym. I gave her a hug, peck on forehead and told her she looked like a 19yr old cheerleader. She told me I always made her day.! Awesome lady! Peace.

I remember my cousin Holly as an almost-always grinning or laughing member of a family that always brought jokes and joy to Christmas mornings at our Grandpa & Gran’s. Only Facebook has connected us as adults, and I’ve loved the connection. Rest in peace Holly . . .

What an unbelievable loss! Holly had so much to give to those around her. Not fair, for her or her friends and family, that she died so young. But our memories are as big as her personality! Love to all my cousins, who i know well, and her immediate family who I never got to know well enough!

Walter and I were shocked and saddened to hear of Holly's death. The word came to us from an employee at our McDonalds office who must have somehow known there was a connection. I cannot imagine the depth of your loss and the pain. After all the working years, I know you must have been enjoying your retirement years in Florida and are very happy to have had them. Sincerely, Bette Mathews
